Drakkor watched the viewscreens focused on the planet below, they showed various sited of vampire activity, they appeared to be beginning hive construction, as well as several hundred factories producing war machines. If action wasnt taken soon, they would re-invade imperial space, a Second Night, launched from here, Ulyssia Epsilon.
"Colonel Makallen?" he said, turning to the armoured Cyphran officer behind him, who snapped to attention
"Yes, my lord?"
"Who do you serve?"
"The Immortal Emperor of Mankind, through his servants the High lords of Terra" - by all accounts a perfect answer, as was expected.
"Good, and what is your duty?"
"To protect His domain from His enemies, without, within and beyond, until I am unable to serve any longer"
"Also good. now, if there is a planet with a mutant presence, and you have the power of exterminatus, do you destroy the planet?"
Colonel Julius Makallen thought for a moment, then responded.
"How large is the mutant presence?"
"Unknown, but not isolated"
"Yes, I destroy the world"
"Why?"
"Mutants are servants of the ruinous powers, and their influence is pervasive, if there are mutants on a world the taint of chaos is there, and must be destroyed"
"And you would deny the Emperor billions of guardsmen, adepts and citizens?"
"I would, for the betterment of the Imperium"
"and yet here we are, over a planet infested with such abominations, and we do nothing"
"That we do, because that is as you command"
"Yes, it is.", the inquisitor said thoughtfully, glancing back at the viewscreens. "Colonel, are you familiar with why the inquisition exists?"
"Not exactly, my lord, why?"
"The Inquisition exists to bring resources to bear on the enemies of the Emperor without the confines of the Imperial Law, they may obliterate planets, consort with Xenos and know forbidden knowledge so they might aid the Imperium without destabilising the structure created by the Lex"
"Ah." Makallen said, slightly confused
"An Inquisitors focus has changed, but their service to the Emperor continues. much like your focus is about to change."
"Colonel Julius Makallen of Cyphra Mundi, from this day forth you are exempt from the Emperor's Laws, you are cast from the eyes of the Adeptus Terra, banished to the darkness, your title is annulled, you are now Inquisitor Julius Makallen of the Most Holy Orders of the Emperor's Inquisition."
Drakkor lifted his robes over his right arm, pressing a button and releasing the catches holding his seal in place. He lifted it out and passed the Onyx and gold "I" to the stunned colonel, who dripped it tightly and winced as a needle dug into his palm. the ship's machine spirit spoke.
"New commander's DNA accepted"
"New commander? but sir - "
"You've confirmed what I was thinking, we should not be sitting here, relaying information to the imperium, we should be acting. I am going to the planet, you will go to Terra to recieve full inquisitorial training, the tech-adepts will fill you in on what to do, the ship has commands to carry out, then it is yours." with that he left, through the corridors into the depths of the ship

Drakkor kept moving, he did not know why the information had been given to him, the ship appeared to be pre-empting his own plans and feeding him information he needed. that or his MIU was malfunctioning and transmitting his thoughts. Either way it wouldnt matter soon.

Barely showing up on any sensors, a small object was catapaulted at tremendous speed down to the planet below. it streaked through the sky and left a trail of fire as the toxic industrial chemicals burned in its wake, it landed near a group of vampire workers who turned and moved closer to investigate
Drakkor reboved his Servo pack andd replaced it with his twin MIU bolt pistols, feeling the connectors drill into sockets along his spine one last time before stepping onto the teleport pad and dematerialising layer by layer, projected to the beacon in a shimmering green beam of energy before materialising, he managed to get a full four seconds of shooting into the stunned vampires before they charged, as they did, he summoned up the last remains of emotion he had to yell to the sky.

A small gold sphere, engraved with a map of miniscule silver runes, split horizontally, the top half rotating before becoming raised on a pillar of silver metal, engraved with gold, revealing hundreds of tiny layers of circuitry. four spikes extended from the sphere on equidistant points on the pillar, crackling with energy. The runes on the surface began to pulse blue, matching the energy that was beginning to arc from the spikes, the intensity increased, before the focused energy engulfed the sphere in a white light, black lightning bursting out from it randomly.
Drakkor was dead, but he was far from finished
Once again the vampires were surprised, for the nanosecond between seeing their vanquished opponent bathed in white light, to seeing a black explosion that appeared to exist in only two dimensions, but with a bright white sphere at the centre, emerge from their foe's chest, before vapourising them, along with everything else within the immediate area.

Inquisitor Julius Makallen jumped at the sirens suddenly blaring on the bridge, and then again at the four streaks of light he saw emerging from his ship down to the planet, he calmed himself.
"The ship has commands to carry out, perfectly normal. Just another day in the life of an inquisitor," he said, trying desperately to calm himself.
The vortex had stabilised slightly now, it looked rather like a small galaxy, with the glowing core, and vapourised matter forming clouds at its edges before spiraling into oblivion at the centre, it was hovering at around chest height, and appeared to have little effect on thr ground below it, beyond destroying any it approached as it drifted towards the edge of the homing beacon's impact crater. It looked almost serene.
The Lance Impact was devastating. The beams converged on the centre of the vortex, encompassing roughly the entire thing, obscuring it from view, but not penetrating it. it was as if the vortex was some impenetrable shield halting the lance's progress. any lance beams that failed to hit their mark were turned inward by the fantastic forces at work, fuelling the vortex further. For a moment it did nothing, and Drakkor's ship took this moment to complete one of its penultimate commands: Begin the warp journey to Terra.
On the planet, the vortex expanded, gathering speed, it began thickening, eating up the ground and expanding further, a sphere of cloud feeding an obscured white core. The Spacedock had detected the event as well as the ship's departure, and swarms of fighters and bombers were flooding from it to the surface to investigate, they managed to see the rapidly-expanding vortex for a mere second or so before being dragged into it, crushed by unfathomable energies. Like some living creature the vortex ate and grew, and the more it grew, the more it ate, the rate of expansion was exponential, like the ship had told Drakkor earlier. The planet and surrounding fleet assets were doomed.
It took a total of 3 hours for Ulyssia Epsilon to be engulfed, followed by the spacedock, before the vortex destabilised and collapsed in on itself. Around 12 billion of the Dark Emperor's servants died to a force they knew nothing about. The Imperium had lost a single man.
The Imperium had lost.
