Xeldar watched from the observation window of a orbital Ship yard deep in the Segmentum Obscurus system orbiting one of the many Cypra Mundi Forge Worlds, the Shadow Op's sponsors had autherised the recomishing and refit of two vessles as a good will gesture.
The smell of incense from so many Techpriests and Magus was almost tangible, and it made her want to retch, it was so pungent but she had a reputation to uphold.
Out in one of the bays, a pair of light cruisers could be seen, thier hulls still fragmented, and the prows still lacking the final devotional crests and seals.
She was in awe some thing that for Xeldar was rare, though the vessles where old it was powerfull but not as Obserleate as so many in the Imperial Navy Considered this type of light cruisers to be.
The two vessles Spear Head style of prow was quite common for all space fairing warships from the Cypra Mundi ship yards but the rear porton of the vessles paid homage to the Cypra Mundi's heritage from the Jovian Ship Yards.
A tech'Priest came up to Xeldar with a data slate, she turned to him asking
+++LADY-INQUISITOR, ARTIFICIER-MAGOS CRANE REQUESTS THAT DESIGNATIONS BE APPLIED TO BOTH VESSELS, WHILE THE MACHINE SPIRITS ARE STILL NEWLY AWAKENED+++
A name? she thought, having not expected to name the ships herself. Well, the traditional names might fit... Cypra Fulmineus and Cypra Fulguris... no...something more inspiring... "I'll call them Rayden and Raijin!".
"I'll call them...Rayden and Raijin!" Xeldar replied looking out at the vast awe inspiring vessle.
+++AS YOU WISH LADY SARR+++
"The extra upgrades I requested?" She asked the Machine cultist.
+++ARE BEING CARRIED OUT AS WE SPEEK LORD INQUISITOR+++ the metalic sound that passed for a voice spoke then added,
"CARRY ON!" Xeldar requested.
+++THE VOID SHIELD GENERATORS HAVE BEEN INCREASED TO DOUBLE CAPACITY. THE TURRETS YOU REQUESTED WERE IRRETRIEVABLE; THE RITES OF PEACE HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED. CURRENT TURRET CONFIGURATION IS OUTDATED, AND REPLACEMENTS HAVE BEEN FITTED. WE ARE MAKING ALL POSSIBLE OBSERVANCES TO THE MACHINE SPIRIT IN COMPENSATION FOR THIS ALTERATION. SPECIFIED DAMAGE CONTROL UNIT WAS INCOMPATIBLE WITH PRESENT STC DATA; IT HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH AN M38 PATTERN SYSTEM+++
+++THE OLD DAMAGE CONTROL WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR SO IT HAS BEEN GIVEN THE RITES OF PEACE AND REPLACED WITH A SUPERIOR DAMAGE CONTROL SYSTEM INCLUDING A VASTLY IMPROVED LOGIC ENGINES COMBINED WITH A TARGET MATRIX LINKED TO THE VESSLES FIRE CONTROL SYSTEMS.+++
"And the engines themselves?" Xeldar asked sternly,
+++TERTIARY REACTOR UNIT HAS BEEN FITTED; IT IS LINKED TO ADDITIONAL MANOUVERING THRUSTERS HAVE BEEN FITTED - THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS LESS EFFICIENT BY 1.26%. ALL OTHER ENGINE MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED WITH PROPER RESPECT GIVEN TO THE MACHINE SPIRIT+++
"And the weaponry?" Xeldar asked casualy, the Tech'Priests scanned his data slate before answering.
+++THE WEAPONS BATTERYS HAVE BEEN UPGRADED TO TURBO STATUS AS REQUESTED WHILE THE RAIJIN HAS HAD ITS LANCE BATTERYS UPGRADED TO TORPEDO SILOS AND LOADING BAYS!.+++
+++WEAPONS BATTERIES HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH AUGMENTED ONES - CURRENT MAXIMUM EFFECTIVE RANGE IS 45,000KM. CM2418SECUNDUS, OR RAIJIN, AS YOU HAVE DESIGNATED IT, IS NOW ARMED WITH TORPEDO TUBES IN PLACE OF ITS LANCE ARRAY. AUTOLOADER UNITS ARE CAUSING DELAY IN THE VESSELS' COMPLETION. LONG RANGED SENSOR/TARGET AQUISITION UNITS ARE FULLY FITTED, AND UNDERGOING PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSTICS.+++
"How long untill all is ready for departure?." Xeldar Asked curiosly,
+++FIFTEEN DAYS FOR COMPLEATION OF WORK ON THE TWO VESSLES, AND FIFTEEN DAYS TO PRPEARE FOR THE NAMEING AND LAUNCHING SEROMONYS AS WELL AS THE CUSTOMRY PARTY THAT FULLY ORGANICS SEEM TO DESIRE FOR SUCH THINGS.+++ the Tech'Priests noted.
+++ESTIMATED TIME OF COMPLETION IS FIFTEEN TERRAN STANDARD DAYS. LAUNCHING RITUALS WILL COMMENCE SOON AFTER, AT YOUR DISCRETION+++
Xelda turned back to the ship, things where shaping up nicely.
Sixteen Days From Launch
Xeldar was in her assigned quarters abord the space dock when the news of the first of the Light Cruisers had been finnaly finished its refitted for service.
Xeldar had rushed out to watch as the vessles docked just as she had when she was a Acolyte all those years ago, a smile graced her lips as the inquisitor Lord thought back fondness of those days when every thing seemed so much care free than it was now.
Looking at the Vessels Xeldar nodded aprovingly toherself, they where of a old design to some they where obserleat and a waist of time but she knew better.
The Thunderbolt Class Light Cruisers sported far less fire power than most cruisers but it had the superior manovarabilaty of a Frigate or Destroyer due to the unique inert stabilisers which enable it to turn much faster in a tighter turnning circles than even most imperial vessles, the Thunderbolt Cruiser all so well known for its speed which rivaedl that of even a Cobra class Destroyer.
But the Thunderbolt suffers from one major draw back its lance and weapon batterys are forward fixed makeing it as a typical cruiser some what vulnrable, however Xeldar had thought of useing them as support ships some thing they would exsell at despite being cruisers.
"How many Thunderbolts Are there currently avalible?" Xeldar asked the Magus that had accompanied her,
+++TWO THUNDER BOLT CRUISERS LORD INQUISITOR.+++ The Magus replied flatly.
She could understand there mocking the Thuderbolts since there weapon where foward fixed but they had shown how dangerous they could be when up close and personal that was when the cruisers truely proves there worth.
Xeldar turned from the observation decks Window of the Dreadnought and returned to her quarters to get ready for the first of many meaningless cermonys that where of little use
Launch Day
Standing on a hovering platform with plasteel guard railings fitted to the podium, Xeldar prepeared to speek via the by the vox-caster strapped over her shoulders.
Though it was the shortest of all the cermonys it was the most importent, Xeldar was garbed in the traditional flowing style of gown and silver tiera.
"I Name this Ship....Rayden!, may the Immortal Emperor and the Omnissiah forever bless it and it's travellers." The enthusiasm could be heard in her voice, even through the metallic noise of the Vox Casters. As she spoke, a bottle of specially blessed oils was propelled against the prow of the Rayden, anointing the vessel, and finishing the blessing.
The suspensor platform then floated across, to behind the second ship, and the ritual was repeated,
"I Name this Ship....Raijin!, may the Immortal Emperor and the Omnissiah forever bless it and it's travellers."
The platform pulled back and touched down, letting Xeldar step off, before the blast doors closed.
Through the viewport, the pair of Thunderbolt cruisers could be seen to be reversing out of the space dock there captains useing ever ounice of care, slowly brought the vessle clear of there metal whomb that had given birth to so many machine gianst of the stars.
"Lady-Inquisitor, your shuttle is waiting." an attendant stepped up, and prepared to lead her off the station.
"Thank you. I will be along shortly."
